What does a healthcare CPA do that a general CPA does not?
A healthcare CPA understands how physicians and medical entities actually make money: partnership K-1s from surgery centers, payer mix, collections lag, provider compensation, buy-in pricing, and private equity deal terms. That context changes the tax plan, the monthly reporting, and the advice before you sign anything.
Do you work with physicians outside Houston?
Yes. janss.cpa is based in Houston and serves physicians and healthcare organizations across Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. Documents, signatures, and meetings are handled securely online, with in-person meetings when helpful.
What is K-1 phantom income?
Phantom income is taxable partnership income allocated to you on a K-1 that was not distributed to you in cash, for example earnings a surgery center retained for debt service or equipment. You owe tax on your share either way, so it needs to be forecast and funded through estimated payments. Read more →
Do you represent the physician or the entity?
On an owner-side engagement we work for you, the physician owner. We do not take success fees from transactions and do not sell investment or insurance products. Where we also serve an entity, any conflict is identified and addressed in writing before work begins.
How are fees set?
Every engagement is scoped on an introductory call and quoted as a fixed fee in a written engagement letter before work begins. There is no hourly meter and no success fee.
How fast is turnaround?
Every deliverable gets a stated outcome and a specific deadline at the start of the engagement. Monthly financials close on a fixed calendar, and transaction reviews are scoped around your signing date.
